Blues n' Rebellion is a Black Performance Poetry UK website, a place on the Internet where the contemporary voice of Black Britons can be heard.
We set up Blues n’ Rebellion in early 1997 as one of the first sites in the UK to use Shockwave streaming audio. Developed with Birmingham based performer Yussef and Crescent Productions, the site has recently been revived and extended and we are currently looking at other ways of using the Internet to promote and support creative writing and performance.
Blues n’ Rebellion is a showcase of the variety of styles and moods evoked by a cross section of performers from around Britain - from the sharp perception about relationships by Marcia Gregory to the powerful observation of Benjamin Zephaniah’s ‘As An African’.
Each poet in the collection has three works, most of which are available as both text and audio tracks. There is more than an hour of ‘music with a message’ on the site which is still the only place on the Internet which focusses on Black Performance Poetry.
